RAR was inspired by the tragic death of Joyce Echaquan in Quebec. Her courage in sharing her experience with the nation is honoured. We will continue to work diligently with our partners to address anti-Indigenous racism in all forms, and notably in health systems.

Click to support and learn more about Joyce’s Principle, which aims to guarantee to all Indigenous people the right of equitable access, without any discrimination, to all social and health services, as well as the right to enjoy the best possible physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is the first hospital in Canada to pledge to Rise Above Racism and is encouraging other hospitals and health care facilities to do the same. TOH is committed to a journey of reconciliation and to ensuring First Nation, Inuit and Métis patients and families have access to safe health care, free of discrimination.
